My Mothy thoughts on Myths

I have some respect for people to live by any myth they like, but I'm not going to humour them anymore. All the diverse religions arrogantly believe they're are correct and that everyone else is are wrong (my religion included). They claim that supernatural entities exist, however, there's no evidence whatsoever for that - not one shred. Thus, reason, science, and even common sense lead me to conclude that there are no gods, demons, angels, ghosts, or X-filed tales. If their existence is conclusively proven in the future, I will gladly admit I am wrong.

At this point, most religios will feel compelled to say something about faith. Since faith is required to believe in absurdities without evidence. But I must reject this faith as a destructive departure from reason that isn't a good thing for humanity. To suspend reason by embracing superstition is to delude oneself into a blissful and ignorant fool's paradise, one which history has taught us repeatedly leads to bloodshed. We're past this and we need to get smarter and over it.
So why aren't I content to just leave it be and not blog? I am upset at what I see people doing in the name of religion. I've been left with a hole in my 'soul' for years wasted in an institution. I believed and waited for a perfect time to come while I wasted the time I had. I hassled and witnessed to friends who would alienate me because I thought I was 'saved' and 'above' them. I alienated my family and rejected their love - I still feel crippled inside from 17 years of pseudo-hate, and the beauty of blogging is that this can be expressed.

This is an expression of my thoughts and current researching. It's not really an invitation to debate my beliefs as such, but sometimes I'll have a go. I used to try to argue with JWs, Pentes, Catholics, etc. but they all seem to know their stuff better than I can dissuade them. That usually makes them feel pretty smug, but all it's saying is that I'm a hopeless debater.

I understand that some of us take religion far too seriously and adamantly feel that other people should too. By "take seriously" I mean that Christianity's claims should be subject to scrutiny and then accepted or rejected according to their logic as you would any other public discourse. Fundy Christians, as much as I disagree with them and marvel at the bizarre concepts they they insist upon. God (or 'life') laughs at them and so do I. Thousands of different beliefs... all correct... all lies... always and forever, human inventions.

Heh, one thing I noticed, not all religions tout that they are right and everyone else is wrong. I'm one of those believers of every religion being essentially right and being a hint of truth to the greater scheme of things. It's kind of long-winded and I'll probably cover it in my blog, sooner or later. Matter of fact, I think I'll just post a previous explanation I posted in a journal.

Oh, and I know you don't want to debate on this stuff. Just thought I would bug you and I wanted to make a post here, because you seem like someone I can identify with, and yet disagree with and I'm new to this whole blogging thing so I thought I'd get to know people.

Hi Phleg

Sharing ideas rather than attacking them. i like that.. comment anytime.

I like what you said about all religions being essentially right. If reality is a human construct then to fight our reality would be just... unreal.

perhaps you're right perhaps you're wrong.... how will you ever know? how much do you read? i would urge you to go and find out where it all started, how the state and church formed a union to form the roman catholic church, how this church sent priests over to the east to start the islamic religion etc etc.

people like you irritate me because your arguments are usually baseless, they tend to hang on similar arguments like racism etc.

if you do not understand something shut up! or ask the question, what happens in the unseen world is far great than your peasized little brain will ever be able to imagine.

Some advice: read some more so that you may be enlightened. when you say all religions, do you include satanism? I urge you go and join a satanic cult so that you may see how real the underworld is.

dont sit on your large behind critisizing everything and everyone... this is so typical of americans.... i want to vomit thinking that they are so arrogant!

--- it's about the size of a cabbage but I think I know what you're getting at. Nasty!

Some advice: read some more so that you may be enlightened.

--- What! but everything I know I learned from Buffy and Star Trek Novels. This is no more.

when you say all religions, do you include satanism?

--- Yes, I include Satanism, they're nutty too.

I happened to have looked this up a long time ago. Ever happened to hear of the Nicene Creed? It's a meeting had in... 325 AD (well the first time) that basically had a bunch of politicians decide what Christians believe in. Not only for Catholics either, the only Christians I can think of that don't follow this creed are the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Church of Christ followers, the Gnostics, and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the branches there of. See, funny thing is though, if you want to really look at it, is that this thing that defines your religion and actually decides to omit certain things from the Bible has no God-spoken prophet involved in it whatsoever. Actually, if you aren't Catholic this creed was made by people you are specifically theologically opposed to. Hell, Joseph, Jesus' brother started the Gnostic faith which was opposed to the Nicene Creed.

Anyways, if you caught all that, it's some interesting stuff. Since you like researching stuff, it's always good to look at things that are paramount to your faith, especially since this little event is often overlooked by Christians as a whole.

..i think i must've been in a bad mood yesterday, anyway, there is a truth and there is a lie. when state and church united after the state killed 60 million christians. they decided to maked their sun god the son of god, to bring in the worshiping under a tree, to bring in old satan clause or do we call it santa? they brought in things that never appeared in the bible. now there are those who argue that even the bible itself can be contradicted.... yes like everything else in this world it can be contradicted... i just heard today that taking vitamins everyday shortens your lifespan by 5%...cool hey!

seriously, i think you should put God to the test...not mockingly but seriously, or who nows He might just decide to make a personal appearance to you. There are so many people like you in the world that got lost along the way because they never had a real experience....

Remember we are not earthly beings seeking a spiritual experience we are rather, spiritual beings having an earthly experience....

i think i am a true alien to this world!

"i think you should put God to the test..."

--- Is God to be tested? Does he have a criteria for us to go by? If he is as omni-onmi as the legends say then it's a purile thing for the clay to 'test' the potter. The only way to prove god is to raise a whole bunch of babies from scratch and see if they come up with the whole God hypothesis by themselves.

"He might just decide to make a personal appearance to you."

--- He might just? on a whim, when he's got nothing better to do eh? I was a serious fundamentalist for 17 years, then a mostly serious pentecostal Baptist for two years. God missed the boat.

"There are so many people like you in the world that got lost along the way because they never had a real experience"

--- When people are honest with themselves and me, they admit they've never actually had a supernatural experience outside of dreams and drugged hallucinations.

The fact that a LOT of people think the bible is contradictory, means that the book is not exactly clear (and if God wrote it, why is it not entirely clear?)

A car manual may not be entirely "clear" but you can have faith that the engineers were at least "trying" to make it clear. The authors of the bible tried hard to make it the word of God, but they, being human, still made some mistakes.

For that matter, why don't you think that Greek mythology is real? And not to mention the other real modern books on philosophy and spirituality that get it a lot closer to the truth.

Why on Earth would you think the Bible is real? Do you really believe that God stopped the sun in the sky? Do you really believe that a man with long hair killed 100 men with the jawbone of a donkey? Do you really believe that God created day and night before he created the sun?

Have you any evidence at all to back up the claim that an ancient text somehow establishes the existence of a supernatural being?

The reason that people don't give up on religion is because it resonates very well with ignorance. And whilst there are many scientists having a good idea how the universe works and are still a minority of the world's population. Ignorance is at the order of the day.

I had to think about this before I answered.
By the way thanks for taking the time to reply. Ok this is a lengthy one so take your time reading it.

Now firstly the suggestions I made, you discredited as being nonsensical. No harm in that for me perhaps a little for you. Let me relate a quick story to you. I live in the southern most part of Africa where strange beliefs still exist. As intelligent as you sound, I’d like to through this past you. An entire soccer team was hit by lightning during a match a few years ago and this was blamed on a witchdoctor. In a telephonic interview a radio presenter asked her how she did it and she says, that the opposite side paid her a large amount of money to perform this. He told her scientifically that it was impossible, her reply to this was: “should I send a bolt to you?” “of coarse not” was his scientific reply.

Now it’s easy for us to sit back and dispute an old religious document possibly written by foolish old men maybe or maybe not inspired of God. However, If God is the same yesterday, today and forever, surely we are supposed to see Him in action today as he was in the bible. I’m assuming in the 17 years of your being a Christian you never saw Him--- now you were being sarcastic but my question remains open do you or do you not want Him to appear to you? No funny business just answer my question.

Here is my story; After Christ went off the scene a certain number of churches were formed, they had no denominational structure; they were merely called the church of Ephesus etc. This was the first church age. I’m not going to bore you with the gory details…. I want to jump quickly to our day. The joining of church and state happened in Rome (nicolaitism) , this is where Catholicism started… Luther saw this error and broke away to spread the gospel (let me point out here that he never intended for his church to denominate and form a Lutheran church it was merely a revival to Gods word and he was the messenger). God moved on to Wesley making a break from this system, The Wesleyan church (Baptists etc) became saturated with their own ideas and the next move was Pentecostals…Azusa street 1906—for the first time in modern history someone was filled with the holy spirit. Unfortunately the Pentecostals also lost the plot and started forming hierarchy’s and denominating which is not biblical at all and the Spirit of God moved a last time and did a final call out to the Bride of Christ. These are the seven church ages-in short.

Now my story is totally validated by facts on Google and the bible. You may or you may not believe it. Your choice as always, this is how things are. If you are chosen of God you will take what I say to heart and find it out for yourself. God did appear supernaturally to man in this day… in the only two validated supernatural pictures ever taken, hanging in Washington DC but then of coarse you know this.

To answer a few of your questions: let me say this, I was in a few impossible situations and called out to God and He came to my rescue. This is arguable of coarse as all things are but tell me if the following is arguable: when a polio child with a short leg is restored to normal, when a dying aids victim is restored to normal, when someone who is totally blind receives their site, when someone grows a limb where there was not one; I ask you this where can science disprove this? Your theories are floating like clouds, that includes your theories about Christianity as well as life itself. These things that I mentioned, I have experienced science tried to argue it, tried to dispute it but their facts were proven wrong. God does exist!

I ask you again, do you want me to introduce you to this man we call the Christ?

mothpete said...

Yes please introduce me. I'm a hospitable chap, but when the bearded invisible man shows up and proceeds NOT to do any magic tricks (my ear seriously needs healing) then I'll ask him to leave and come back when he can follow up with the goods.
