Flood, Fire, what's next? World wide pillow suffocation?

Truth is truly stranger than fiction but the truth can also be much less exciting. I'm thinking the Egyptians would have thought it really terrific to build those mammoth structures in honour of their gods and of the afterlife. I'm also thinking the Olympians and the Aztecs also had much more exciting lives in their quests to make the invisible sky daddies happy.

Life was a lot more exciting and dramatic when I imagined invisible angels and demons swarming around us, locked into a rigorous battles for our eternal souls. Jesus fought a terrible battle and paid a terrible 'price' for us by being tortured and killed, and amazingly had enough magic to get up again... although it did take a few days, and he still had all the gross wounds on him.

It was a brilliant plan to save us from all the evil he said he created for us in the first place; and from the set-up he put for us in the garden. Wiping out everyone (bar eight) in the flood didn't work, we only bred more sinners. He should have seen that coming. Have a son instead, and get him killed. Brilliant. That'll balance it all out... oh, but still wipe everyone out later on and this time eternally torture the ones who don't fall into line. That'll fix 'em. This time with fire, 'cause the flood thing... well, that's been done already.

God needs to make better plans. Flood... fire... I'm thinking the next time he gets all genocidal it'll be by burying us all alive. Oh wait, he did that with Moses' rejects. He needs to be original; I appreciate that. Maybe some world wide bizarre gardening accident or pillow suffocation.

The truth can be stranger than fiction but I find the truth is much more liberating. It's decipering which is which that we seem to find hard to do. Psychologist Bruce Hood observed that babies fill in the gaps and invent rules to help make sense of the world around them. Irrational and 'magical' beliefs are hard-wired into us and many of us never grow out of them. The following websites are a big help... the video is pretty sobering too. Arnie the Anti-christ

DALLAS — Anti-christ watchdog groups say Arnold Schwarzenegger, governor of California, is far and away the most likely man in the world to be the anti-christ.
Anti-Christ Watch, a non-profit organization, says Schwarzenegger fits the biblical profile almost perfectly: He comes from Europe and is amassing power and influence across a wide spectrum of occupations. He has astonished Californians with his deft solutions to budget problems. He is also history's most successful actor, in dollar terms, and one of the most successful athletes.

"Everybody loves him," says Bible expert Sean Terking. "They think he can do no
wrong. That's scary."
Many evangelical prophecy teachers see the European Union as the ten-horned confederation of Revelation 17:7-8 from which the anti-christ will arise (see Daniel 9:26). Schwarzenegger's home country of Austria belongs to the Union.

Recently, Schwarzenegger has lobbied for an amendment to the Constitution, which states that the president must have been born in the U.S. He has batted around the idea of running for president someday.

To cap off the theory, Terking points out that "schwarzenegger" means "black plowman." "He is the sower of a dark harvest," says Terking. "Anyone who's missing these signs is in for a rude surprise."

Top scientist debunks global warming

I'm not really running with Al Gore on this one. Michael Moore showed us that any oaf can string together a bunch of facts into a nice spin to sell movie tickets. Go to any church and they'll show you how nicely stuff can be spliced together to make the end of the world seem plausible. I'm not buying into the whole 'The end is nigh' scheme again. The doomsdayers have been around as long as there have been days to doom and I agree with Ian Plimer when he says that we're naive to think we can influence climate change.

Sure, digging up coal and oil and burning it into the atmosphere probably isn't the best thing for it, but I personally don't think we should be running around and stocking up our cupboards with cans as if it were the Y2K bug again. Fossil fuel is unrenewable and perhaps we need to fear 'hell' to keep us in line and conserving it.

We modern humans think the world revolve around our existence. We are just a mircosecond in the vast expanse of time and space. South Park had it right about being a "Man Bear Pig". The next thing Gore will come up with is a killer asteriod.

Top scientist debunks global warming

MANKIND is naive to think it can influence climate change, according to a prize-winning Australian geologist. Solar activity is a greater driver of climate change than man-made carbon dioxide, argues Ian Plimer, Professor of Mining Geology at the University of Adelaide and winner of several notable science prizes.

“When meteorologists can change the weather then we can start to think about humans changing climate,” Prof Plimer said.

“I think we really are a little bit naive to think we can change astronomical and solar processes.” Prof Plimer said he had researched the history of the sun, solar and supernovae activity and had been able to correlate global climates with solar activity. “But correlations don't mean anything, you really need a causation,” Prof Plimer said.

So he then examined how cosmic radiation builds up clouds.

A very active sun blows away the cosmic radiation, while a less active sun allows radiation to build up, he said. “So you can very much tie in temperature, cloud formation, cosmic radiation and the sun,” he said.

The next part of Prof Plimer's research was to examine the sources of carbon dioxide. He said he found that about 0.1 per cent of the atmospheric carbon dioxide was due to human activity and much of the rest due to little-understood geological phenomena.

Prof Plimer also argued El Nino and La Nina were caused by major processes of earthquake activity and volcanic activity in the mid-ocean ridges, rather than any increase in greenhouse gases.

Nor does the melting of polar ice have anything to do with man-made carbon dioxide, he said. “Great icebergs come off, not due to temperature change but due to the physics of ice and the flow of ice,” Prof Plimer said.

“There's a lag, so that if temperature rises, carbon dioxide rises 800 years later. “If ice falls into the ocean in icebergs that's due to processes thousands of years ago.” On the same basis, changes to sea level and temperature are also unrelated to anything happening today, he said.

“It is extraordinarily difficult to argue that human-induced carbon dioxide has any effect at all,” he said.

Prof Plimer added that as the planet was already at the maximum absorbance of energy of carbon dioxide, any more would have no greater effect. There had even been periods in history with hundreds of times more atmospheric carbon dioxide than now with “no problem”, he said.

The professor, a member of the Australian Skeptics, an organisation devoted to debunking pseudo-scientific claims, denied his was a minority view.

“You'd be very hard pushed to find a geologist that would differ from my view,” he said. He said bad news was more fashionable now than good and that people had an innate tendency to want to be a little frightened.

But Prof Plimer conceded the politics of greenhouse gas emissions meant that attention was being given to energy efficiency, which he supported.

The professor, who is writing a book on the subject, said he only used validated scientific data, published in reputable peer-reviewed refereed journals, as the basis of his theories.

Mixed bag of stuff

Watching the movie, Hotel Rwanda.
I remember the 'ethnic cleansing' massacre well. I remember weeping over the cover of Time magazine. I still have that mag from 1994. Am looking at it now; at the trampled refugees at the Rwandan border. Over a million people slaughtered horribly, witnessed by children, in a scene unparalleled by even a Rob Zombie movie.

And people try and tell me that there is a great tribulation to come. Can they not see that hell is unleashed already and already far too often. These futurist Rapture theorists make light of the suffering that many have endured and are enduring here and now. What sort of imagination invents a future more terrifying than the events that have already transpired? Answer - Tim Le Haye and his frakking fictional 'Left Behind' stories for a start.

I took the family to see strongmen world record holders.
It was funny. these guys were big hugely muscled strong guys. They could squeeze and explode full cans of soft drink, blow up hot water bottles with their mouths, and slam their arms through concrete. They were so macho and ... American... it was funny to see them stop every ten minutes and share their gospel. There were lots of subtle tricks to get the audience to say the sinner's prayer... It was just bizarre.

I was much more selfish when I was a Fundy Christian.
In the churches I did the right thing because I was afraid to disappoint God. I was wracked with guilt over my many failings, so I tried to make up for them by spreading the truth to people in need - all good intentions.

Now that I live in a world without fear of hell, my actions are not determined by my fear of the wrath and disappointment of a jealous god. When I help others, it is because I want to see a better world or just to lend a hand because I'm part of a community of people; plus I've kids to bring up and if the world sucks a little less for them then that's worth a little unselfishness (a little).
