New experiments in genetic engineering could open the doors for the return of fearsome "giants" described in the Bible – the offspring of human women and fallen angels – warns author Thomas Horn in his best-selling book, "Nephilim Stargates: The Year 2012 and the Return of the Watchers."
In the Book of Genesis, beings of great stature called "giants" appear, which some biblical scholars believe came into existence after powerful angels known as 'Watchers' used women to construct their own bodies of flesh. The Apocryphal books support the Genesis story, adding that the sin of the angels grew to include genetic modification of animals as well as humans. Now, Horn asks, "What if, by corrupting the species barrier in which each creature was to recreate after its 'own kind,' Watchers (or demons) had successfully mingled human-animal DNA, to leave their plane of existence, and to enter ours. "The results of this genetic modification were the giants known as Nephilim," he says. Given what is happening in science today, Horn wonders if modern biotechnology may be about to repeat the science of Watchers, and, worse, provide a pathway for the return of the Nephilim. Today, molecular biologists classify the functions of genes within native species but are unsure in many cases how a gene's coding might react from one species to another. In recombinant DNA technology, a "transgenic" organism is created when the genetic structure of one specie is altered by the transfer of a gene or genes from another. This could change not only the genetic structure of the modified animal and its offspring, but its adaptive development, sensory modalities, disease propensity, personality and behavior traits among other things. "If one accepts the biblical story of giants as real, discoveries could actually be made someday, or perhaps already has been and was covered up. The technology to resurrect the extinct species may already exist, and cloning methods are being studied now for use with bringing back Tasmanian Tigers, Wooly Mammoths and other extinct creatures." Is the world on the verge of bringing back demonic giants? Horn believes so.
Dennis Quaid has joined the cast of LEGION. Tyrese Gibson, Charles S. Dutton, Lucas Black, and Paul Bettany will also star in this tired old storyline where Mankind's only hope rests with a group of strangers who must deliver a baby they realize is Christ in his second coming. This is after God loses faith in humanity, not learning his lesson after drowning everyone in the Noah incident, and then again with Evan Almighty. Demi Moore did this crap... Arnie did this crap... Keanu Reeves... Walken etc. The sometimes self-titled geeky talkbackers at Aintitcool had this to say - (I love religious commentry with pop-cultural referencing):
* If God existed, how would an angel and a bunch of humans be any match for him? He's GOD! And, don't you think God be aware that Jesus was coming back, since God has to magically fuck a virgin to produce a messiah? Granted, this isn't any more unbelievable than the shit that's in the bible, but come on - he's GOD! They can't win this one.
* Jesus as a baby in the Second Coming? This is silly. You might as well portray God as a man in a blue and red tight with cape.
* Oh, God loses faith in humanity, huh? Since when is God a temporal creature? He's omnipresent, and that includes the temporal sphere. He can't just decide on March 10th to lose faith in humanity, if he loses faith, he would lose it at all points in time past and future -- and the effect would be the same as if he never had faith in the first place. And if you don't think this means we can tie in TimeCop somehow, well, you're just not paying attention.
* The only thing that will save this film is Kirk Cameron. This movie needs a healthy dose of crazy dead eye. I always thought that Cameron was just a harmless psychopath, but it turns out he accused the writers on Growing Pains, the most morality laden TV show, of being child pornographers for breaching the subject of teen sex. What a douche.
* Yeah well people don't really think which is why they follow religions and believe in stupid shit like the devil even though god is all powerful, the devil will try to overtake god, how? God is God, but it's in the bible and people believe it. Religious people lack imagination. Fuck it. When Geoff Johns can make a badass apocalypse sound cooler in 2 pages than the revelations you know the religion is shit.
* Whenever I hear crazy christians talk about the revelations and all that will happen I just tell them that I doubt if there is someone with omnipotent power he would make such a boring uninspired Apocalypse. End of Earth. boring. I want to see the end of the Multiverse at the hands of the Anti Monitor. Instead of earth threatened by beasts, have reality threatened by a psychotic superboy.
* I once asked an Evangelical why God would send an upstanding an moral unbeliever to Hell just because that unbeliever didn't believe in him. I mean, isn't that a little petty for the creator of the Universe? Guess what the answer was? It is because God, even though he may love the unbeliever, cannot stand to be in the presence of someone who doesn't believe in him. But this is an omnipotent creature, right? Yet somehow belief is his kryptonite? God's powers are less consistent than Superman's.
* Unfortunately they won't give this a downer ending. We need a movie where there's no glimmer of hope at the end. Humanity ends. Period. No miracle cures, no virgin births, no iMac uploaded computer viruses, no shuttle pilots flying into cracks with warheads, no Polish astronauts planning a nighttime landing on the sun with nukes, no drilling to the earth's core in a ship made of an indestructibe metal called CanYouBelieveThisBullshitium. None of it. Just humanity wiped clean from the face of the earth by the invisible Jewish carpenter in the sky.
* BTW - for those few who might not know - the "Legion" bit refers to Jesus finds a possessed guy and asks the demon what its name was. Its response was the rather cryptic "My name is Legion, for we are many" most likely referring to the Roman term for a Division of troops. Jesus then gets rather annoyed with this and sends the Demon into a herd of pigs who run off a cliff. Lovely stuff
TV Announcer: This is Channel 5 news Texas, with Duke Dillon.
Duke: Howdy Texas, I'm Duke Dillon. At the top of the news tonight, authorities have called off their pursuit of a fugitive Rhode Island baby, who was thought to be possessed by the devil.
Lois: Oh, thank god!
Duke: This turn of events came after Vatican scientists announced today, that the devil is not the greatest threat to salvation. Due to last weeks discovery of the Super Devil. Religion reporter Dallas Houston has the story.
Dallas: Thanks Duke, well let me try and get you a clear picture of what we're dealing with here. Here's a photo of the devil, and here's the super devil. Now as you can see, there are some significant differences. The super devil is at least six inches taller, uh, he has a flying motorcycle, and a jar of marmalade that we believe forces you to commit adultery.
Bindi - Many psychologists ( not me yet! ) have studied the reported 'alien kidnappings', and one of the conclusions is that the kidnappings never occurred. However, the people making the claims are not necessarily mentally ill, nor are they lying.. These are by and large people who have 'remembered' their 'experiences' while undergoing therapy, and often under hypnosis. Tales of alien abduction are widely known throughout our culture, so it is not at all suprising that the 'memories' of 'kidnap victims' would tend to coincide. 'Abductees' generally claim that they are awakened during their sleep by the aliens and are unable to move. We know that many of our voluntary muscles-the ones that involve movement- become 'paralyzed' when we sleep, which is why we usually don't thrash around when we dream. 'Hallucinations' - that is, seeing and hearing things that are not really there - are quite common as we are waking from a sleep-paralyzed state - ( I can't tell you the amount of times Ive sat bolt-upright in bed with my eyes wide open fighting of hundreds of spiders that are hanging around my face! lol! ) - and it seems the reported experiences of 'abductees' fit the pattern. People are quite open to suggestion, especially during hypnosis. Memories are not perfect snapshots. "UFO" memories may be constructed from bits and pieces of sleep-related hallucinations, nightmares and media attention fixed solidly into place with the suggestion of hypnosis and the validation of support groups. I guess the same could be said for those of us who have had various 'experiences' with God. Our conviction is further validated by those around us who have 'experienced' the same. Dare I suggest, brainwashing?? ME (Moth) - I used to write-off all the alien and ghost stories as Satan's little army of demons playing silly bugger with us. Those mischievous little minxes and their tricks - crazy rascally little scallywags! Ahh, ya gotta love 'em. Christians would have us believe that all their crazy demon/angel/jesus sightings are above board, while the Mary/E.T./poltergeist sightings are induced by Mr Devil himself... the ultimate trickster. I have to say, that anyone who starts seeing mythological creatures in their own physical peripheral vision needs to really have a good long hard think about how much sleep they are getting and what unnatural substances they are allowing to seep through their lungs and stomach linings.
The bible has its own built-in clauses to explain away people like myself and that makes the whole thing work wonderfully. It would seem a strong delusion spell has been cast on me in order for me to believe a lie, and that I was 'not ever of them'. Whatever works for them, but I really think this is a cop out. If this delusion spell is on me then my freewill has been compromised and therefore my ability to work out my salvation has been biased and is not in my favour. That's a bit unfair don't you think?
Bindi - Yes... I do agree. Our 'free will' has been somewhat compromised. I don't really believe there IS any such thing as 'free will'! We were told... " You have a choice, its your free will, but if you don't do things THIS way, your going to hell and its not a nice place down there. Lots of screaming for all eternity. Burning sulphur. No chance of cooling off, no sirreee! But hey! Its your choice!" What the hell? ( pun intended ) What kind of choice is THAT???
As for seeing beasties, ghosts, gremlins and aliens. I believe its literally 'all in the mind'. Sometimes enhanced with a few mind expanding drugs if that's your thing! But seriously.... these 'things' can be explained away scientifically and therefor I don't believe it has anything to do with the workings of 'Ol' Nick' or is the souls of the dearly departed.
Having said that...what about the stories we here of 'haunted houses' etc? Ive heard some spine tingling stories of peoples experiences in some old, old buildings with a history behind them. How do we explain this? Is this another case of rumours getting around about certain places, stories being told and we have those tales memorized in our minds so when we visit these places, we 'experience' the same??? Is it because we want to have our OWN ghosty stories to tell? Lets face it.. everyone loves a good ghosty story around the campfire!!! There is nothing worse when everyone else has a story to tell and are all excited about telling it and then we turn around and say.. " well, nothing happened to me." Ohhh... what a convo killer! You don't get to be part of all the excited hype! You're left out! No one likes to be left out so we conjure up our OWN story.
Hence the reason why all those alien abductions tell a similar tale. They have heard it before and it becomes locked in their memory. The same can be said for similar stories being told in the churches. Some I truly believe may of been true, but some were 'over dramatized'. No one wanted to be 'left out' in giving an amazing testimony. Anything for a bit of attention.
Apparently I do believe in God, I just won't admit to it. One cocky seventeen year old fellow, Micah Sonatra, (DevenHoffpauir, with his truly kitschy myspace) who I thought was a middle-aged lady, said that it was obvious God existed because even Lucifer believes in God - that was the crux of his argument. What the..! Stating that one imaginary character exists because another imaginary character believes it exists is like saying, "Of course Santa Clause is real, heck... even the tooth fairy knows that".
-------
---
- Sonatra: You see, you have no case. This is your case and still you think you have a case. This isn't about wheter or not God exists. You know God exists.
Umm... no, but I think it absolutely amazing that you think you can tell people what they believe. No, I don't believe there is a god and you telling me that I do isn't going to change that. I don't believe there's a bogeyman under my bed.
Sonatra: The God you guys apparently don't believe in, yet still feel the need to mock - a God you believe doesn't exist
I can't speak for everybody else, but I think I'm mocking your beliefs and possibly you personally, not the imaginary friend you play with.
Sonatra: To see that no matter how much I care about monsters, I can't save them.
Ahhh, such a flatterer... you could love your enemies, or simply call them names.
Sonatra: and I will now take my leave. Take heed, for punishment draws near, wheter you belive in it or not. Just because you don't believe in a sword, doesn't mean it isn't there.
Are you really gonna leave? 'cause you said something like that about 12 posts ago when you said you aren't to throw your pearls to swine. My invisible pink unicorn keeps me safe from invisible swords, so I'll be fine I think. It really is cringey when Christians start talking in Ye Olde English.
Sonatra: Goodbye, I have said all that is required of me to say.
If any of those other little voices in your head tell you to do anything involving swords, knives or weaponry again, could you do your neighbours a favour and drive out into the desert immediately.

I used to hide behind the agnostic label, but after watching the following videos (I kinda like watching cute girls talk about atheism) and reading Douglas Adams, I felt that the agnosticism just isn't me. I certainly ain't Christian, I ain't Agnostic either.
According to most christian based beliefs there are many super-powered spiritual beings roaming around us and moving in between their universe and our universe. Sounds like great science fiction to me and a good premise for a movie or tv series, but unfortunately real life isn't like that - boring though that may seem. Even our kids work out sooner or later there is no Santa Claus or teletubbies.
Let's say they're right. Let's say that there are angels and saints busy working for God. That means they're not doing a great job, because there's pain and misery everywhere and they hardly seem to be lifing a finger to do anything about it. Even Superman and Batman would try to make some impact. Some of the blame has to be shared out to all the superspirits who just aren't cutting the mustard.
Apart from the tri-une God (Father, Spirit and the kid) there are numerous Saints for Catholics to pray to and angels of many ranks to depend on in an emergancy. God is a great one for delegation it seems and has stuff going on everywhere in the minds of Catholics.
I'm sure Mary was a top chick, but yeah she's very dead. I don't believe that she's floating around the cosmos relaying messages onto Jesus. Some people find Jesus a bit intimidating to send prayer requests to so they go through his mum hoping that being a female she will be more sympathetic to their needs and put in a good word.
Mainstream Christians really embrace the concept of demons and angels flittering about above and around them. They personalise the demons and angels in much the same way the Greeks and Egyptions had all sort of various demi-gods for different purposes. Mainstream christians believe free will can be taken from people and replaced with possessing demons. On the whole they are a pretty fearful lot who go on ghostdemon hunts often. Too scared to watch Pokemon, Sesame street, Buffy, Harry Potter, Scooby Doo.. lest a demon find a way into their consciousness and trick them into something unholy.
I think some people remain Christians because they are left feeling bored and empty when they consider that the world may not have a supernatural dimension. To them, life can seem much more dramatic and dynamic when they imagine that this world is like a giant chess board....with angels and demons intervening into the lives of men and all that...eternal souls at stake...
That is classic 'hitting nail right on the head with a satisfying thud' stuff! I think churches are FULL of drama queens (and kings) who love to profess themselves as demonology experts because they couldn't afford a degree in real life. People who do all this 'farting around' in the spirit (ecstatic languages, slain backwards, laughter fits on the floor) are attention seeking and a bit sad, but also bloody funny.
Often I played along with these demon Vs. angel conversations and play along rather than arguing because it's like playing Dungeons and Dragons. Fun and scary! I remember reading Billy Graham's ridiculous book on angels. He woke in the middle of the night, wandered past his loungeroom and saw a heap of angels in there, battle planning... I imagine lots of whiteboards and furrowed angel faces concerned about a new wave of demons or some crud. Billy G - what a wank.
I have a bad attitude towards 6000 - 6 day creationists as well. I have some contempt for them and, call me a prick, but I just don't like people who try and fit dinosaurs into their 6-day creation mythology or a freaking world wide flood. I wouldn't even buy them a McDonald's 40 cent cone because it would just annoy me too much to try and not throw it at them. I just generally have no time at all for creationist nutters who won't budge. Can't stands 'em I doesn't.
